Noise for Airports

Vibrations and how they get to your ears.

Noise for airports is a blog about culture, sound, music, and technology.

Hyperacusis

Going to audition (hurrr) to be a control subject in a hearing study today. Bringing field recorder/notepad in case something interesting happens.

update:

All the tests were done in headphones, so nothing really to record. They tested the frequency and amplitude range of my hearing, as well as my sensitivity to loud sounds (both a warbling sine tone and a white noise burst), and then did some otoacoustic emissions testing to see what frequencies my ears responded to. I’ve got some materials on otoacoustic emissions and some thoughts about irritating sounds that’ll go up later. (Oh yeah, and I passed the test; they’re going to have me back for brain measurement while listening to clicks, beeps, and noise.)
