This wire recorder toy looks pretty neat. It is effectively a tape head with a microphone stuck to it, so by sliding it along a ferrous material while recording, you can create a variable magnetic field. Then, just run it back over the field in “play” mode at exactly the right speed, and you’ve got the basics of magnetic recording! (via technabob)
